Motoring south down the Hudson River
21 September 2011 | Kingston, NY
Randy - fog, overcast, drizzle, 70, S 5-10
Another foggy start to the day. Departed at 0730 and arrived at Kingston at 1630. Long day of pure motoring but fairly easy. Carlos followed and Cardona did not repeat the engine issues of Monday. Weather is tolerable, but cold starts in the morning gets the blood moving.
At the end of the day, I was putting the main sail and paraphernalia up and needed some help. Carlos graciously volunteered. Got it done but it was late and missed a hoped for get together with Dean and Susan of s/v Autumn Borne, whom I met when sailing 3 years ago. Missed them this time but will hopefully cross paths later as they are heading south as well, albeit a couple weeks behind me.
It looks like the weather will not be favorable for heading out around New Jersey until next week sometime. If so, I plan to head to Sandy Hook, NJ and wait for a good weather window and head out then. The radar is not working so the delay will give me time to figure that out.
I am enjoying myself, but it is a very different experience this time vs. the 2007-2009 trip. The obvious difference is Nikki is not here, but there is more, I think. Will think about that some ...
Leaving tomorrow with the tide, so a later start than I prefer, but no point fighting it.
