Marking time down the Hudson
22 September 2011 | Croton Point, NY
Randy - more fog, heavy rain, humid, 70's, southerly winds
By the way, that tree is near the middle of the channel in over 30' of water. It wasn't there the last time I went through here and am sure Irene pushed it out into the channel.
Not a lot new to talk about tonight. Motored along for 9 hours and arrived here near Sing Sing prison. Woohoo! I stayed here during the trip north in 2009 and this is an excellent anchorage, especially with southerlies picking up tonight. Scattered T-storms forecasted for the next 4 days. Finding good anchorages like this with forecasts like that always makes for a better night's sleep.
More motoring through water that is now the color of chocolate milk. The farther south I go, the more debris and sediment there is in the water. It's like the tide is just sloshing it back and forth up and down the river. No time to walk away from the helm under auto pilot as this stuff is everywhere.
Carlos on s/v Cardona fell behind with what he was thinking was a problem with his motor. Now he thinks he may have been dragging debris hung up on his keel or rudder. Hope that is all it is.
A beautiful passage past West Point is always a bright spot of the trip down the Hudson.
