Deltaville, Virginia
03 August 2015 | a weekend stop.
Image; an enjoyable bike ride.
1st August - We had a good days downwind sail for the 35 miles sail to Deltaville, Virginia.
We arrived on low water... so had to lift the keel to get through the narrow and shallow entrance up into Jackson Creek to anchor off the Yacht Club – what a beautiful, calm and serene spot.
2nd August - after Sunday cooked breakfast and a slow start we went for a dingy ride to explore the creeks and rivers.
There were a few locals out playing on the water, but considering the number of homes with private dock and all types of water vessels – it was quite. Most of the waterfront homes had very picture postcard perfect locations and grounds.
We made this stop to checkout their haul out facilities at Deltaville Marina – both Koza and Eye Candy and many others had recommended it to us in the past. Pricing was good and facilities also excellent – a little bit of a strange setup with boatyard and marina separate for charging, but sharing living facilities!!
The lady in the marina office was very helpful with info and allowed us to take out their courtesy bike for a ride into town for a look about – very enjoyable indeed. We wandered through the West Marine store, bought a Sunday newspaper and then come back to the boat for a R & R afternoon.
We had seen many of the locals enjoying the shallow waters off the sandbar near the entrance markets – so headed out for a late afternoon swim. A small local boat had an engine problem – so we became a TowBoat US to tow them back to their waterside home mooring.
3rd August - departed Deltaville at 6am for the next 50 miles day hop north to Solomons in light south winds – motorsailing.
We decided that instead of motor-sailing we would make a short day and make an overnight stopover – so tucked into Mill Creek, near Reedville off the Great Wicomico River– what a beautiful spot, with just the Canada geese for company, and we could have a lovely afternoon swim.
