FINCA IXOBEL
As we were travelling from El Remate to the Rio Dulce on the main northern Highway 13 this was about a halfway stop on our return to the Rio.
Finca Ixobel is a working ecological farm, growing all its own veg and salads and has its own onsite bakery.
The traditional ranch has horses available for riding treks to the nearby Maya caves.
Originally set up by a San Francisco couple as their bohemian hideaway, it now welcomes guests looking for a rustic break in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
The farm is set amid pine forest and patches of jungle and is located on the main road between Flores and the Rio Dulce southeast of Lake Peten.
Whilst our freshly home cooked lunch was being prepared we took a walk around the grounds, and to visit the resident beautiful and talkative Macau - he was stunningly beautiful indeed.
The bird feeders attracted some stunningly beautiful tiny hummingbirds.
The natural pool, with its cool water looked very inviting - and some chose to have a quick dip whilst the rest looked on from the thatches palm-leaf palapa.
