Getting closer
21 July 2010 | fiji to vanuatu
Michael and Jackie
We're now well over half way, about 150 miles away from the Southern point of Efate, the island where Port Vila is situated. The day started with surprisingly strong winds, up to 30 knots - but they soon died down. The wind is now more like 15 knots, quite gentle really. Unfortunately it is right behind us due East which actually is a difficult angle to sail. This means that we have to go from side to side gybing to get to our destination. We'll probably be able to put up our spinnaker or gennaker tomorrow, assuming the light winds persist, and this should take us into Vila tomorrow evening. Everyone is fine aboard - a fine corn chowder tonight but no fish even nibbled at our lures. Roll on tomorrow.
