Rest awhile
22 April 2011 | Fitzroy Island
michael and jackie
We left Dunk Island early in the morning so that we could do a full day's sail up to Fitzroy Island, about 60 miles or so. We put the mainsail up and took it down. We put the spinnaker up and put it down, the genoa went in and out. Basically there was no wind. We had thought that the wind would get up as per the forecast but it just went. This was a bit unfortunate since we were low on fuel. Still we managed to get something from what wind there was and using one engine got to Fitzroy Island at about 5pm a bit later than we would have liked. Welcome Bay is a delightful bay, a pleasant crescent of sand sheltered from the prevailing winds with a small resort and campsite. Because the winds were so light we decided that we would not linger there but return after a trip out to the reef. The picture of Jackie has the Michaelmas Reef in the background.
