What a start!
06 June 2009 | Kemah - Galveston
First off, Annie's flights were all on time so she made it back as planned. We worried about delays as a couple of our dockmates delayed their trip to go with us.
She landed at 12:08 and we were out of the slip by 2:15. The winds were out of the south, so it was obvious we'd have to motor. That was OK. Ann was tired from her travels and it was a glorious day, so we motored, letting 'WhoDat' (our autopilot) steer most of the time. We followed Sam and Pat on Longhawk - Glad that we did as we neared Galveston and a number of waterways converge making it look pretty stressful on the chartplotter. We were lucky, there was very little traffic. As we entered the Galveston Channel, Annie finally saw her first dolphins. After a couple of spottings, one came up along side the boat as she was getting ready to put out the bumpers. I swear, he looked her right in the eye and i was clear to me that we were welcome...
We got settled into the slip at the Galveston Yacht Club and got cleaned up for a trip into town. Sam had found that one of his favorite groups, the Sisters Morales was playing in a small venue that they'd seen them at before. To say it's intimate is in understatement. I'd guess that there were 100 people there and it was a sell-out. Before the show we went to a little TexMex spot that the Sisters Morales recommended. Ends up they were there having dinner before the show. Dinner was great (and cheap) and the show was amazing. I'm a new big fan!
Unfortunately, Annie was zonked from her travels and lack of sleep so we caught a cab and came back after the first set, leaving the others enjoying the show.
Today was pretty well perfect...
