Day Two = Lagniappe's first in the gulf...
07 June 2009 | Freeport, TX
Things started out smooth. We left the slip at 8:30 fot the motor out the Galveston jetties to the gulf. We attempted to raise the main whole motoring and had some problems. It got jammed. With some playing, tugging and wenching of the outhaul and inhaul we finally got the main out.
Soon we had passed the jetties, turned to the southwest and began our first leg offshore.
With the exception of raising the main, which I take full blame for, the boat performed very well. The sea were mild ( 1-3 ft) and the winds just at the end of where we'd normally reef, so we had all of the sails out and were flying.
No issues with unmarked rigs or junk in the water.
I put out a fishing line and not long afterwards, noticed the bait had been hit. Whatever it was took the lure with it. I suspect the line was broken as the leader was gone.
We arrived at the Freeport Channel when we noticed water had spilled from the blige onto the floorboards. There was too much water in the bilge. We have to figure out where it's coming from. We had this problem on our last trip to Freeport, and not since. It's obviously from somewhere that isn't under water unless we're underway, as it's not a problem in the slip and oddly, hasn't been on our recent daysails.
We were met coming into Freeport by a group of Dolphins. They are so cute and inquisitive. Just seemed to wonder what we were up to. We were in the slip by about 6:00 pm...
Tomorrow is a day of motoring down the ICW to Matagorda.
