Freeport to Matagorda
08 June 2009
Today was much different than yesterday. We've committed to a couple of days down the ditch. Not really what a sailboat wants to do, but we don't want any overnight passages this trip, and there's no way to avoid one without using the ICW. So we motored from about 9:00 in the morning till 4:30 .
As usual, there were some issues... The fact that our boat leaks a good bit while underway led to more water than anyone would like in the bilge. and having to pump it out regularly. We'll be talking to Beneteau about that again as soon as we get back.
Then, horror of horrors, my camera quits working. I've been having some troubles with it and thinking that it might be time to replace it, but i NEVER excpected it to go completely dead. It ended up that it was the battery pack that I'd added that was the culprit, and as of now, removing the battery pack and returning it to stock format has it working again. I told Ann, I can't even imagine not having a camera on this trip...
Upon arriving at Matagorda, I must admit we simply love the place. It's a sleepy little marina just a bit away from a very busy ICW stopping off point for tow boats and their barges (which they push, not tow). There's a lock a bit below us that's only open a couple of hours a day so tomorrow, we have to be away by 6:00 (am in the morning!) to get through the lock. Odds are there will be lots of barges making that transition, so we'll have the Flip video at hand to document the mayhem.
Tonight, we ate at a little restaurant on the property. It's known for its friend flounder. I was dubious, but it was amazing!
After that, it was back to the cockpit for libations until the skeeters arrived. That drove us down below rather quickly. What in the cockpit, we had a moment with a Ukelele that we've documented on our channel (svlagniappe) on youtube. It was magical!
Tomorrow, another day down the ditch...
