Hunkered Down
08 October 2016 | 190 miles South of Esperance WA
The forecasts all show the wind steadily increasing to around 37 knots from the West within the next few hours and staying close to that for the next day so down with the double reefed main and just the storm jib flying. I know this won't get me far but once the wind gets over 30 knots which it did at times in squalls today things become a bit hectic and even threatened to spill my coffee onto the so far pristine charts. Once this one blows over might just make it round Cape Leeuwin before the next set of Westerlies come in. Not much happening on the domestic front with canned beans and salmon sampled for the first time in many months. Must be too well fed on Porterhouse steaks and fresh veges as that little zing seemed to be missing.
It's now 8:30 pm and with the wind rising and backing South of West its on with the wet weather gear and harness and on to the Port tack. It is a bit of nuisance to put all the clobber on but to come back inside dry and warm is well worth the trouble. And yes, the harness too.
