Tack Ticks
29 October 2017 | 650 Miles North West of Ascension
6:00pm Sunday 29th October 2017 ( UTC-2 ) The great area of blue seems to be spreading like a contagion out from the coast of Guinea so in order to avoid the deeper shades I altered course to the West during daylight hours. With night coming on I was faithfully promised by those whose job it is to make the weather in these parts that the wind would be swinging around more to the East so I changed tack one again heading North by North West ~ 335d, with the full main and the asymetrical . That's two tacks in one day, which was more than in the last fortnight - one. It is certainly more comfortable on a broad reach with the main up but to my surprise I couldn't make her go any faster despite much tweaking poling and other devices known to the ancients. The sailing is comfortable but with the light breeze it is very warm in the cabin and of course the sun is pretty fierce. Finesse and fishing shouldn't be in the same dictionary. From now on its brute force and ignorance.
