07 November 2017 | 920 Miles to Hierro
6:00pm Tuesday 7th November 2017 ( UTC-2 ) Travelled well through the night on the electric autopilot but in the early part of the morning the wind started to fluctuate ever so slightly. Being close hauled this had the effect of sometimes tending to almost stall or slow down the yacht and at other times to be broad on with unnecessary heeling. No doubt the course would be better if the wind vane was used as the sensor as against the compass but I've given up hope in that department. It was decided to resuscitate the formerly much maligned WindPilot and with a little fiddling the average speed increased by almost a knot to say 6.3 knots and even pointed about five degrees higher - that is more to the right and closer to the direction of Hierro. As a bonus the motion was also more comfortable with a steadier angle of heel. As night falls the wind has eased a bit so out with the full main - we're on a mission here! Again made some more water with the surplus energy and whereas the tanks may technically be not pressed u p they are slopping over the top. Also with the spare energy I turned on the quite bright deck lights last night as a sort of dinner invitation and am pleased to report I will be having at my table tonight the company of one frying fish.
