Recycling - The Magic of New for Old
13 November 2017 | 315 Miles to Hierro
6:00pm Monday 13th November 2017 ( UTC-2 ) The hoped for six meals of fish turned out to be four. I may be just a fussy eater but after a few days in the unheated ice box the last Dorade appeared just a little lacklustre so it was consigned to that great big blue recycling bin out the back. Just on the off chance the Halco #4 Barrabaiter was given a little outing and barely had I resumed the delightful task of cleaning out the bilges than skipping merrily along behind was the fresh and perfect replacement for that somewhat tired Meal #5 & Meal #6. Pratty'd be proud of me. I mentioned the haze. The remarkable thing was that once the sun had gathered up enough energy to pierce the gloom this morning it showed all ropes to operate the sails - you know sheets, halyards downhaul etc. we're covered on the windward side by a thick and noticeable coat of red dust. Or dirt, to be more specific. To my surprise the sails and surfaces on the yacht did not seem to be affected. Even though the scenery is rather drab the wind has been pretty much as specified so good, upwind, progress has been made towards Hierro.
