Blog Comments and the Genius of Einstein

03 December 2017 | 465 Miles to the Equator
1:00pm Sunday 3rd December 2017 ( UTC-2 ) Due to the hard work and due diligence of the Anonymous Anarchist " ***** " I have now been able to read all of your lovely comments on this site. Well since 7th September at least. Here I am propped up I'm my favourite settee with one eye on the instruments ticking away the miles and dodging the isles and the other looking up through the hatch at the sometimes quite voluminous cu's and I see I have the company of a sole Tropic Bird. This all leads up to the feeling that I must be going Troppo and the urge to get off my chest my musings on the Universe.Much has been made of the fact that Our Albert was but a humble clerk in the Swiss Patent Office. It was the popular opinion round the beginning of last century that anything that could be invented had already been invented so understandably our man had time on his hands to riff through the scientific journals. He came across various versions of the E formula which had different fractions in the quotient. His Genius? Drop the fractions and adopt the formula EMc squared as his own. Now for the proof of this formula simply Google it and you'll find lots of proofs, the simple ones take a minute and the full or long ones stretch out to a couple. The interesting thing about this is that Einstein himself tried for the rest of his life to prove his formula but was ultimately unable to do so. Not surprising really as it is probably wrong. Many of us came across the formula in high school ( Kinetic ) Energy 1/2 Mv squared so hey drop the fraction (1/2 ) and for velocity v substitute c, the speed of light which is really really fast and whammo! you've got a really big number. But what about the Bomb you say. Look at it this way. Just prior to WW2 word had leaked out from Germany that they were developing a super weapon, so in America Einstein was prevailed upon to lend his name and prestige to a submission to President Roosevelt which resulted in the Manhattan project. When this was outlined to Einst ein his reply? Fancy that! I never looked at it that way. I have another fortnight in the tropics so stay tuned! As an aside I have it on good authority that there are 10 to the power of 80 particles in the universe or maybe 10 to the power of 85, one being one hundred thousand times more than the other so my mistaken assumption of salinity being 3,300 ppm instead of the true 33,000 ppm , a mere factor of ten and a trifle, means the output of my desalinator machine is 5.500 ppm and consequently those A- rabs connoisseurs of the crystal clear.
