Old Saltz and the ITCZ
06 December 2017 | 25 Miles North of the Equator
6:00pm Wednesday 26th December 2017 ( UTC-2 ) We Old Salts are a superstitious lot or perhaps this could be better put as just saying we are always careful not to offend the Weather Gods in general and King Neptune in particular. The literature is replete with tales of those sorry souls who chose not to follow this well defined path, so that as I am about to pass over His winter residence I can now say that I was confident all along that I had cracked the ITCZ in just a few hours last Monday. Even the West flowing Equatorial Current has been of little hindrance as it has been pretty much on the beam and the breeze of about 12 knots just slightly ahead of the beam has resulted in a good solid close reach averaging over six knots. It seems He has given His assent for a nice run down to Rio but after that of course it is out of His hands.
