Serene Sailing
09 December 2017 | 3450 Miles to Cape Horn
6:00pm Saturday9th December 2017 ( UTC-2 ) It would be easy to go into unnecessary rapture in describing the present sailing conditions but suffice to say that everything is just as you would hope for while cruising down the coast of Brazil in early summer. The breeze is just at that right strength to have you moving along steadily and purposefully in the right direction but not so strong as to cause any spray and require the hatches to be closed. The sun is shining brightly but the cooling breeze prevents the cabin from becoming uncomfortable with the white and fluffy cumulus a welcome contrast to the blue of the sky and the deep blue of the sea. I plan to stay well offshore and make my next aiming point 23 30'S 37 00'W which is about 400 miles East of Rio de Janeiro but will add no significant distance to travel to Cape Horn. This should mean keeping clear of coastal traffic and just maybe slightly more favourable winds.
