6:30pm Sunday 7th January 2018 ( UTC-3 ) Yes you can tell what the weather is like here by looking at the length of my afternoon ramblings ( or rants if you are a true believer that The Science Is Settled - We Must Act NOW ) Yes a little slow coming around to the broad reach of this afternoon but made up for by the gradual easing of the confused chop to a nice steady swell and a clear crisp and sunny blue sky. All the reefs have been taken out - even the main! - as we head towards a point a little way off the North Westerly outlier of the West Falkland Island. Up until today I have only seen a couple of Albatross but now there are usually a few around. At present there are no Wilsons Storm Petrels in sight. Now it's hard not to like these gorgeous tiny birds, also known as Mother Cary's Chickens, but the trouble is the rougher it gets the more numerous they become and when it's really blowing they seem to be having the time of their lives. They continually dance on the water with tiny little steps while you are cowering in the dog house wondering whether to put in yet another reef. Where they go when the weather is nice like now I have no idea.
