Going Well

08 January 2018 | 485 Miles to Cape Horn
4:00pm Monday 8th January 2018 ( UTC-4 ) We have been making god time in benign conditions with a moderate breeze on the Starboard quarter. It's a bit of a shame that the sail area has to be reduced a little below best boat speed as L'Eau Commotion has a tendency to round up if there is a slight increase in the wind and once she has the bit between her teeth there is no way she will return to the proper course. This rounding up is in the vicinity of 40 or 50 degrees which is too far off course despite the usual increase of speed of a knot or so. Last night the jib was furled in a few times and because it's much easier to keep warm than try to warm back up I don the full regalia including the sea boots. All this takes a while of which I have a huge assortment but the nuisance value sometimes finds us a little under canvassed. My main aim in the next day or two is to try not to cut corners round the outlying islands and shoals as I only have generalised charts of the area and masses of kelp could be a real pain in the predicted variable light winds. A fine light occasional drizzle gave way to a fair bit of sunshine today so it is a very comfortable 16C in the cabin right now after an overnight of 12C.
