Made it to Portal, Cave Creek, AZ

by Keith, Perfect weather
I had always heard that Portal, on the backside of the Chricowas (sp), was exceptionally beautiful. It didn't disappoint. They call it little Yosemite and I can understand why. It's a good 150 miles from Tucson, but well worth it. We all agreed we wanted to come back. It was like the idyllic campground, 5500 feet in elevation, a creek running past it, dam with a waterfall, The sort of place you wouldn't really take a motorhome but for which the Aliner expedition and three-quarter ton truck are a perfect combination. There were some off-road parts and negotiating the camper up and around some steep areas. So cool that we can do this sort of thing on the weekend with just one overnight. We are planning on longer trips, but for now it's what we can do, and the places that were going have been adventurous and interesting and really up into nature. It is so gratifying for me to be this sort of naturalist once again.
