Old battery compartment base

It looks from the photographs taken on site that the base of this battery compartment had worn to the point where battery was in contact with raw hull.. this can't be. Fortunately, the boat is in a location where such a matter can be remedied without too much expense. Our use of the sailboat so far has not involved such things as the integrity of the battery compartment, but we are planning our first short cruise in our new to us ocean cruising sailboat and I would like to have it, as always, in the best condition possible for safe and enjoyable adventuring. Or, in other words, we could be doing a little rocking and rolling and it makes sense in any event to make sure our off-grid electrical system at its best. We were going to replace all of the cushions and upholstery, which would really bring it to new looking, but when we see Levi still spilling food on the floor at our house and on the RV, I think it'll be better to keep updating and perfecting the infrastructure. Nothing that we experience is likely to be anything like the capacity of our Cascade. I've been reading this book about a sister vessel to ours that sailed around the world and then back and forth from Portland to Hawaii in the late 70s and early 80s. They said the boat was stable, dry, reliable and relatively easy to manage for an inexperienced couple. The Cascade handled well in good conditions and in terribly bad condition, like lying ahull in a storm (meaning all sails down and secured and all openings to the outside shut, with everyone down below riding out the stormy seas).
