Our first Sail Loft

by Keith, hot, even in San Diego
We brought the 30 year old Cascade mainsail to San Diego for maintenace and repair. It served well getting us home without prop power on our last family sailing trip, and for many years before as to the previous owner, but it was showing a lot of wear even after I had it "repaired" In Mexico. For a cruising sailor like me, finally making it to a sail loft after 46 years was a real treat. To bring our children at so young an age was, for me, something of a religious experience. The service manager, Eric, turned out to have kids our age and and he had a special understanding of what I was trying to accomplish. He encouraged the kids to run free through the loft and offered them anything they found on the floor, like old tape and long cardboard rolls that once held sail material.
