by Hot, I'm still rehydrating and its 8:30 at night
We went back to my in-laws this afternoon and my father in law took me out to finish the job. We measured several times to make sure we had the wiring done correctly. Then we cut, soldered, shrink-wrapped, and electrical taped the wires to the connector. I filled the engine with oil and we walked and lifted the engine back onto the lift. I tried the starter button and it moved - so that means we had definitely wired it correctly from the connector to the engine. Sarah and I went and got some fresh gas to start with, picked up a pizza for everyone, and I hooked up the tank and primed the line. We had cleaned and filled the 50 gallon drum with water well above the prop and dropped the engine down on the lift to the center of the tank. I gave the starter button a full-on push. It ran like a top and the engine was soon running. Smooth, quiet, modern, clean. I liked it right away. The water pump was going so hard it went 5 feet into the desert. I ran the engine in idle for a few minutes, then put it in forward. There was a lot of water being pushed around and I didn't advance the throttle more than a little bit for fear of hitting the prop on the side. Ran it another few minutes at idle, unplugged the tank fitting from the engine, and let it run out the remaining gas in the engine. Maybe 5-10 minutes altogether. It definitely runs. The new engine is covered and ready to go. Onwards.
