Outbound through the Coronado Bay Bridge
13 July 2014
by Hot sun, but cool ocean breeze and ambient temp of 75 degrees
When I departed the marina, I have to admit I was a little scared, which I think is normal for most recreational cruisers. The engine hadn't even been broken in yet. It became obvious rather quickly that the new outboard works great. It takes the boat to hull speed at around 1/2 throttle, with plenty to spare to deal with currents or other high thrust needs. As usual, the wind was against me most of the way, but the new engine made that kind of irrelevant because there was always engine power enough to bring the boat to the ideal speed irrespective of wind conditions. The new Tohatsu four stoke 9.8 long shaft high thrust engine performed flawlessly the entire voyage.
