The race consisted of a long, mostly up wind reach across the bay and then another long reach back to the finish line. It was pleasantly windy and not particularly exciting. Oz sailed well, but not very fast. We passed several boats over the course of the race, but were not very competitive overall. What does race showed me most of all is that our new to a sailboat is definitely a solid cruising sailboat. It handled all conditions smoothly and strongly. I did manage to get the Autopilot 3000 working, and it seems to work well. The reason I was having trouble with it was because the hydraulic steering was low on fluid and very mushy. Over the course of the weekend I kept adding fluid to top off the reserve tank and added about half a quart overall. Once I did that, the steering firmed up and reduced from 4 turns to get a complete rudder rotation down to a little more than three. The race was done by early afternoon and we relaxed and had lunch and showered before going to the Saturday night party.
