The first night I arrived at the monument I went straight up this dirt road for about 5 miles past the Forest Boundary sign where there are some pretty good camping spots. Not many people drive this road to Portal, Arizona so it is a supremely peaceful and wild forest environment - especially at night. It got really cold that night, but the furnace on the Bounder kept us warm and toasty.
