More Deer Outside My House At Boulder Canyon
Keith, Spring, 2008
04/24/2008, North Tucson

Sometimes when Anne barks outside, there really is something. We have deer-like creatures that inhabit the neighborhood. They walk past my house in the desert as part of their morning routine. I've posted about them before. We will miss them. It is nearing the end of April. Things are changing in my world and it is bitter sweet.

This picture is taken with my new camera. The old one, which was rather new itself, must have fallen out of my pocket at San Pedro Bay because when I returned to the boat it was gone and was never found. Pity. But this camera is even better and a bit easier to handle, I hope. My companion for that trip has the pictures and is supposed to e-mail them to me. It was a great sailing trip. Big wind. Great weather. Brought Singmeaway back to the USA to prep for her sale. More about that later.

Country Road At Dusk

The first night I arrived at the monument I went straight up this dirt road for about 5 miles past the Forest Boundary sign where there are some pretty good camping spots. Not many people drive this road to Portal, Arizona so it is a supremely peaceful and wild forest environment - especially at night. It got really cold that night, but the furnace on the Bounder kept us warm and toasty.

This was about as high as I could bike up the mountain. I went a big farther and turned around at China Boy formation.

Those are eggs in a basket (or whatever you call them), raspberries, cut grapes, and sliced bananna, and ice water. Nobody said adventure travel had to be uncivilized.

White Tail Deer

Deer were everywhere. In the fields, gullies, along the creek bed. This one let me get pretty close - so close I wouldn't go any closer for fear he would charge me. He's got that look.

Using the timer I was able to capture yesterday's adventure while it was happening. Such beauty, thank goodness it is protected.

This was my camping spot last night. The picture was taken early this morning while I was walking the dogs. It is just outside the monument. My rig is too big to camp at the Bonita Campground. All the better as I had the site all to myself and it was so peaceful and beautiful and all that kind of stuff. You can see my bike (circa 1989) that I took half-way up the mountain range. That was hard. I napped after lunch yesterday when I returned from that ride. But the views... Wow.

I went skiing a few weeks ago with family and friends in Park City, Utah. Great time!
