You sailors know what I'm talking about. I left several hours later. Drove to Atlanta and here we are. Finally in Atlanta!

A Message From Birmingham, Alabama
Keith, perfect weather
05/27/2008

As hot and humid as Oklahoma City, Little Rock, and Memphis were, that's how perfect the weather is in Birmingham, Alabama right now. I'm sure it made for some incredible backyard Memorial Day barbeques for tens of thousands of people living in and around these parts. The temperature was perfect, the humidity was high enough to give the air some volume but low enough to be comfortable. I slept with the shades down and the windows open. If anything it is a bit chilly in the Bounder this early morning. Went to a chinese food buffet within walking distance from Walmart last night. It was without doubt the worst. Many selections, all poor quality, except the mushrooms, which were done nicely. Jake came across a rubber ball, took it home, and I see he has slept with it right by his side. A skype meeting later this morning and then off to Atlanta, unless I decide to stay here one more night. About 650 miles from here to Tropical Dreamer.

The Tourists Waiting To Enter Graceland Mansion

They don't let dogs into Graceland so I had to forgo the $60 tour and watch from the walls of the compound. What an industry they've created from him. The RV park manager said that it is a dying industry as the serious fans die off. If they get desparate, they can always make the house into a bed and breakfast, but they will have to store the airplanes and cars someplace. As you can see, it is doing just fine for now. Jake and Anne got to share in the fried chicken last night and this morning so they are happy. I've got hot water going and I'm going to shower and shave and then head off to Birmingham, Alabama. Hope to find some BBQ along the way. Shouldn't be hard since there are signs for BBQ at every town.

Short of BBQ, dare I say this is the local cuisine. Tasty.

Afternoon Rest In Memphis Near Graceland
Keith, hot and humid
05/25/2008

I hung out at the Walmart in Little Rock until about 1:00 p.m. writing a legal pleading for a divorce case that is dragging on post-trial and post-ruling. It got so chilly in the Bounder that I actually enjoyed the heat when I stepped outside after I finished the draft and e-mailed it to the Client. 150 mile drive to Memphis. Short compared to what I've been doing. While in Little Rock, I caught a little music show on National Public Radio featuring a musician from Paris who played the most incredible spanish/french guitar. Hearing that music while parked at the Walmart in the rough part of town was such a contradiction. It was the sort of thing that one only experiences while traveling. Great art in a place one would never expect. Tonight I'm parked at an RV park within walking distance of Graceland. The park closest to the attraction was too busy and unreasonably expensive. Note to self, don't say too much about my previous employment. The guy at this RV park went into 10 different law-related stories when I responded to his question regarding my employment. From now on, I am a cruising sailor, that's all. It is worth noting that the ice I got from Alison's house in Flagstaff lasted me until just now. I've filled my muffin tins with water to make ice using the 30 amp electric hook-up I've purchased tonight for $32. That is rather expensive for an RV space according to my experience, but when you consider the cost of running the generator for 16 hours at $3.75 per gallon per hour, it makes a lot more sense. More importantly, this place has huge open fields adjacent to the park which the dogs will love. Right now (5:30 p.m.) it is so hot and humid that water is dripping steadily from the forward air conditioner off the roof down the side window. I'd like to get some BBQ tonight, we'll see. Maybe just a walk with the dogs past Graceland.

Luxury RVing in Little Rock
Keith, warm and humid
05/25/2008

I arrived in Little Rock after a 5 hour drive, found a walmart easily (in the not so great part of town), cranked up the generator and both air conditioners for a while, and settled down for the night. Great internet, authentic mexican food a short walk away, and a residential neighborhood to walk the dogs. It is so humid tonight the outside of the Bounder is dripping wet. What are we going to do when we're on the water without air conditioning. Remember the luxury of the RV, that's what we're going to do.

I'm finally starting to get organized in term of all the documents and business stuff I've brought along. Parked here with the air conditioning on low in the back, it is cool, dry, cozy, and safe. It is 9:15 in the morning and I've got time. The dogs are crashed out on the floor. I'm tuned into this radio station that targets my exact music style and demographic. I enjoyed a fresh ground, hot cup of coffee from the capresso (more about that later). I think I'll vaccume and then head over for that $3 breakfast. Then perhaps another walk with the dogs and a shorter travel today so I leave time to work on a court pleading that is due in about a week.
