Heading South

John and Cheryl
Cheryl's Notes:
We spent the weekend in Solomons Island waiting for Bill to pass up the coast. We had rain all day Saturday. I don't know what the total was, but if felt like we got about five inches of rain. Our decks got a good washing, and I went around with a chamois to try to clean the salt off of our ports and hatches. We delayed our exit until Monday, as Sunday was supposed to be still rainy. Wrong again, it turned out to be a beautiful day. John hooked a ride into town for some last minute hardware and I topped off with things at the grocery store. We spent a pleasant evening with Jackie and George of Sea Otter II, who gave us loads of data for our trip south this winter. They have been cruising for ten years and used to live in New Bern. We had a great time comparing notes on people and places in the area.
We left the Solomons on Monday morning after a short burst of rain woke us up early. We headed south with our destination Mill Creek, which is off of the Greater Wicomico River. Jackie and George agreed that it is one of their favorite spots and one of the most pristine. We weren't disappointed. It was so perfect, that we decided to spend a quiet day with the whole anchorage to ourselves. This however, may not have been such a great idea.
We woke up this morning with a pod of 8-10 gray dolphins swimming around the boat. We were running back and forth on deck trying to catch a picture of them. As soon as we pointed the camera, they would pop up somewhere else. We finally headed out moving south towards the Piankatank River. As we headed south the weather warnings kept getting worse. We were hoping to have made it into the Dismal by this weekend, but we are not sure. We are again waiting for another man to screw up our lives. This time it will be Danny Boy. I am hoping that being John is Irish and our boat is named Leprechaun, that he will take pity and leave us alone. Debbie called from her office today and we gave her our position. She checked with her GIS experts and we have been told to hold fast and we should be okay.
John's Notes:
I'm saving my strength in case I need to exert lots of effort in storm preparation in the next couple of days. Most of everything important to say, Cheryl has already said. For those of you that are keeping score, though, the current standing in the World Championship of Cribbage are: John 27, Cheryl 24. Cheryl is the owner of one skunk. John, however is the owner of 4 skunks and one double skunk. I think most of the odor is coming from Cheryl's side of the table. (see Debbie, you didn't think I would let dad down, did you?)
