Rain, Rain go away!

21 April 2010 | Mile Hammock Bay, NC
John and Cheryl
Cheryl's Notes:

We took off from Wrightsville Beach and had rain all the rest of the day. We had to time our day based on more bridge openings. The current didn't help us at all today. We just slogged along in the rain. We dropped the hook in Mile Hammock Bay with a bunch of our cruising friends. I, however, was not up to any happy hours, I took a nap instead. Our evening was spent listening to the reports from the nighttime training exercises from Camp Lejeune.

John's Notes:

We've seen lots kewl things since we have been gone but, we might have been about an hour late for yet another one. We anchored at Mile Hammock Bay tonight. Anyone can anchor there, you just can't go ashore because the surrounding area belongs to Camp Lejeune and the Corps takes a dim view of civilians messing with their war games area.

Anyway, about an hour before we drop anchor the Marines were playing with one of their hover craft and I guess it was quite a site from what other boaters told us. "Sporting Lee" from our marina got to see it in action. I guess they are huge and made a round trip in and out of the anchorage and up on shore. It makes one hell of a lot of noise for sure, along with a boiling, swirling cloud of water all around it. When it went by one of the anchored boats, it cleared off most of everything on deck that wasn't tied down. They had fun launching the dingy and picking everything up. We did get to see it from a distance but would have been much more fun up close and personal.
