Crabby, down day

Cheryl’s Notes:
We left Cambridge Monday around noon. We took a short hop down to La Trappe Creek. We anchored in the bay right behind the sand hook. What a perfect spot. We went ashore in the early evening and took a swim to cool down. This would be our last night with Frank and Debby of Denali. She is in a hurry to get home to spend more time with their new grandson. They are heading home to Salem, MA. We will miss them, but our paths will cross again.
Yesterday we took another short hop to meet Wes and Deann of Liberty in Oxford. We were supposed to rendezvous with them in La Trappe Creek, but there was a communication error and they ended up in Trippe Creek. We anchored in the Oxford harbor area and went for happy hour at Schooners. It was a really hot day and our walk around town was short, due to both the heat and the lack of things to see. For the second day in a row we had to say goodbye to good friends. They are going to spend July and most of August in Northern Minnesota with family. As we are now going to use the marina they recommended to haul out for the winter, we will see them later this year.
Today we made a four mile trip up to Trippe Creek. It has a beautiful bay with big houses and great crabbing. We are hoping to get a bucket full for dinner. A storm blew through last night and it is much cooler today. We are going to enjoy a down day, just crabbing and swimming. I did have a stroke of bad luck yesterday. I was going to clean the lenses on my sunglasses and they snapped in half. I will never buy wire frames again. Of course, it doesn’t help when you whack your face on the back stays all of the time. Now my dilemma is whether I can find a place that will put the lenses in a new set of frames or do I have to get all new glasses. It is really hard to live on the water without good protective sunglasses.
John’s Notes:
Well, we have arrived at the decision not to return the boat to North Carolina. There is just way too much to see and do here on the Chesapeake. We found an inexpensive place to haul the boat for winter. It’s on the Coan River just a short way up the Potomac River. We will cruise for another couple of months, then head for the Coan. Once there, we will try and find our way back to North Carolina and get our cars and mail. Then we will return to the boat and haul her out for the season. The whole process just made more economic sense to us. Why pay for a fulltime slip when we are not there most of the time. It’s funny, but we have no seller’s remorse. We have great friends and memories in North Carolina but I’m sure we will continue to make lots of new friends on the Bay.
We are trying our hand at crabbing. In the last hour I have caught two. It’s takes a while to get the hang of it. But, now we have these kewl crab lures that we got at the store last night. I can almost taste the crab now. Of course, our next issue is cooking and cleaning them. More on that later.
