Goodbye, Sandusky

Cheryl's Notes:

We have had a really great two weeks in Sandusky. The gang on F Dock has made us feel at home and a few have campaigned for us to stay. Last night we were invited up to the yacht club for a potluck dinner. We are really going to miss all of them. We are hoping that we have convinced a few to make their way up to Lake Superior to experience the Apostle Islands.

We spent last weekend with Barb and Trish. They hosted a little backyard barbecue by the fountain for us and some friends. They even provided the entertainment when a tree down the street lost a branch on the power lines. It created quite a show. We had a great time, but wish that we would have had more time for them.

We have finally got Leprechaun all put back together. Mast, boom and sails are ready to go. The dingy and outboard are mounted, both the outboard and generator are working fine. We have finished stocking our dry storage and reefer, and it is time to leave. Everything is clean and the excess stored. My new rugs are down and they really look great.

We are going to head over to the islands and spend a few days before moving north. We did not get to experience Put in Bay on our last trip. The locals have convinced us that we have to go and wander around. This weekend the island is hosting a big pirate party, so we have decided to anchor at Middle Bass until Monday. This will give the party bunch time to clear out. We must be getting old because we no longer like the big, crowded anchorages.

We will be taking the northward journey at a much slower pace. The Detroit River has a southern current of about 4 knots. We made it from Port Huron to the northern edge of Lake Erie in one day going with the current. We are going to split the reverse trip into two days. We will spend the first night in Detroit and then work our way to Port Huron.

John's Notes:

There are lots of things to remember about Sandusky. The great people on "F" Dock, for sure. Another is that Sandusky has one of the great Oldies radio stations of all time. Kool 108 is great but I think this one is better.

Not exactly excited about fighting the current in the Detroit River but it's the only way home. We are as ready as we will ever be to get underway. We will miss the people here for sure. We won't miss the loooooooong walk down the dock.

Weather has been an issue here for the last couple of weeks. I'm guessing that it will have an effect on our travels. Good thing we are in no particular hurry. We are having a difficult time trying to figure out where to spend Cheryl's birthday and then the 4th. Would like to not have to spend them traveling.
