Happy 4th of July

Cheryl's Notes:

You know you are in full cruiser mode when you wake up at the crack of dawn even when you could sleep in. We had a short run today of three hours to Rogers City. We were in a slip by 10:45. We stopped here on the way south and landed in the middle of their annual festival. We figured it would be a great place to spend the 4th. Well, the town is almost completely closed down. We did get one of the marina employees to run us out to the only open grocery store to replenish fresh dairy and produce. (Our breakfast each morning is a granola bar and yogurt.) At least they are going to have fireworks tonight.

We spent the day on the internet checking weather forecasts. We do not want to get caught in a blow in Whitefish Bay again. We were going to lie around in Hammond Bay for a few days, but the wind is from the south tomorrow, which is perfect for crossing the last of Lake Huron. Then from there, the weather looks like it will cooperate all the way to Marquette. Maybe we will take a few days along the south shore.

John's Notes:

Rogers City is really a nice little town. Unfortunately, it is still suffering the effects of a down economy. We walked the tree lined streets and remarked how well kept all the houses and property were. There seems to be a lot of pride among the people here. The marina is another exceptional facility. It has been upgraded since we were last here.

The next few days will be some long legs. Anything over 50 miles is a long day anymore. We seem to thrive on those 20-30 mile days. Of course, when we get back to the Apostle's all days will be short trips. Just a few hour good sail and then enjoy spending lots of the day at anchor. We do our best work at anchor.

BTW, Roger City has put in a laundry since our last visit. Could have saved us the clandestine operation yesterday.
