The last time I wrote we were unhappy about having to tack to reach our objective, Attu. Just as the wind then tried to send us to Russia and we came about on the port tack heading east, I had another look at the weather maps and this indicated that another fairly deep low was on the way that would potentially yield gale force northeast winds in a few days time if we continued toward Attu. That, after tacking for three or four days into light northeast winds. On the other hand, we could track the path of the low and perhaps duck under it to pick up west to northwest winds that would send us to Adak, some four hundred miles along the Aleutian chain and from Attu, an island that seems to be blessed with many safe and beautiful anchorages based on the "Aleutian Cruising Guide" as I call it that was created by the folks on the yacht Fine Tolerance back in 2003. Seemed like a no brainer, but heading off in another direction from our other sailing colleagues whom we have gotten to know in port and through a daily radio conversation was hard. And furthermore, we had to give up about ninety hard earned miles of north as easterly winds pushed us to the south east and the safe route under the low. So, today finds us closing in on the path of the low now about 150 miles to our east and sometime tonight our winds will shift to the northwest, increasing in strength and we will be heading for Adak. Already, the wind has gone from east to north. Notes: Location N46 50", E169 13". For those following our SPOT transmissions, there appears to be no coverage in our area.xxx
