Year 9 Day 246 Getting Ready To Pull Up Stakes

03 October 2016 | Simpson Bay Marina Sint Maarten
Dave/Mostly Sunny

After spending a month here in Simpson Bay Marina, we hope to leave tomorrow and start our slow way back to Grenada. We wish to arrive there in early November so we can get the boat mothballed in time for our mid-November return to the States. Thus, we spent the day getting Leu Cat ready for our departure. This meant putting back all of the tools I had lying about, re-inserting the “speedo” (the speed sensor) into the thru-hull, and filling our fuel tanks, using 6 of the 5-gallon jerry jugs that we have been keeping on our deck. We still have 4 of them left so I am thinking we will drained those right before we put Leu Cat on the hard when we return to Grenada. While I was doing that, Mary Margaret did another load of laundry and then swept up the floors of the boat.

We finished the day off by having dinner with our new friends, Deni and Mike of S/V Pau Hana. They introduced us to a very nice Indian restaurant that was only about a 5 minute walk from the marina. They are just starting their cruising adventure and Mike is still in the process of winding down his consulting. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them and are hoping that we will be meeting up again next year as we return to this part of the world as we make our way over the Med next spring/summer.

With luck, we will be heading off to Ile Fourchue tomorrow. It is a small island that is between Sint Marteen and St. Barts. We believe that it is a marine park and we hope to spend a number of days there cleaning the hulls and snorkeling if the weather permits. It is supposed to be rainy this week so we will just have to wait and see..
