Year 10 Day 45 The Smells Of The Galley Are So Good!

09 March 2017 | Bobby's Marina, Philipsburg, SInt Maarten
Dave/Mostly Sunny And Windy

We are into the heart of various boat projects to prepare for our Atlantic crossing. Mary Margaret is in process of making various meals that she freezes. With just the two of us taking watches throughout the day and night during long ocean passages, it is difficult and tiring to make a large meal each day from scratch. Thus, Mary Margaret slaves away prior to passages, making scrumptious meals and then freezes them. Thus, when we are under sail, she can simply take out a dinner, zap it in the microwave and, viola, we have a great dinner to enjoy.

Today, she made her killer beef stew, chocked full of beef and various veggies, all swimming in a thick gravy-like sauce. It smelled so good we decided to “sample” it and had a portion of it for dinner tonight. Yum!

She also makes tons of her killer spaghetti sauce where she slices up a smorgasbord of veggie and adds them to the sauce to thicken it. They add a hint of sweetness and a big dose of flavors. Double Yum!

One of my favorites that she makes and freezes for our crossing is her delicious lasagna. Layered with lots and lot of ricotta and other cheeses, it is soooo good.

As you can see, we eat well during our long passages which is very important. They say an army marches on its stomach but so does the navy and, as sailors, it is important not only from a nutritional view point but from a mental view point to have at least one outstanding meal each day during our long crossings. I am blessed that Mary Margaret is such a great cook and we never suffer regarding our meals on board Leu Cat.
