Year 5 Day 191 Getting Ready To Move On
Dave/Sunny
08/16/2012, Lewolaba, Lembata Island, Indonesia

Once again I met Harry and his motorcycle at 0800 at the dinghy dock. However, this time we were going market shopping. Normally, this is reserved for Mary Margaret since she knows fruits and vegetables so much better than I and she loves to walk around the open air markets and bargain. However, Mary Margaret definitely does not do motorcycles. Thus, I was selected as a poor stand-in for her.

The market was only a few minutes away by motorcycle. Once there, I tried my best Mary Margaret imitation by going to each stall and smiling and saying how nice their produced looked. However, that is where the imitation stopped. Once I selected a stall with some good stuff, I tried to bargain but failed miserably. Oh sure, I got 30% off on the eggs and at a different stall, I even got the lady to make it 3 potatoes for 5000 Rp (50 cents US) instead of 2 potatoes. However, everything else was bought at asking price. I went to a number of stalls and no one wanted to bargain. Even though I failed miserably at bargaining, the prices I paid were ridiculously cheap.

Once done at the market, we climbed back on Harry's motorcycle loaded down with bags of goodies. On the way back to the dock we stopped at the BNI bank where I got another 3,000,000 RP ($300) since our money stores were getting low. This should last us until we get to Lombok in another month. BNI must have a relationship with Bank of America because I have been yet charged a service fee for using their ATMs.

Once back on Leu Cat, it was time to polish the stainless steel on the arch. It was getting ugly and I wanted to polish it before it started to pit. While I did that, Mary Margaret took down the laundry that she had done while I was gone and then started in making bread. She has discovered this great recipe that makes delicious bread where one of the ingredients is yogurt. The salon smelled like a yummy bakery while the bread baked. The only thing better than smelling the bread baking was eating it as it was still warm, smothered with butter. Ooooooh, that was goooooooood!

Tomorrow morning we weigh anchor and continue our travels west up the Indonesian Archipelago. Using Google Earth I have found a neat reef ringed lagoon that connects a couple of islands about 90 nm west of here. It is NW of the village of Maumere off of the Island of Flores and just west of the island of Babi. We hope to day sail about 45 nm tomorrow and then complete the journey the next day.

THis building is where Harry really has his office.

As we moved out to the outskirts of town, the area became a bit more rural.

Not all of the roads in town are paved. Many of the roads that crossed the main roads are just dirt roads.

AS we headed out to the outskirts of town, the road narrowed but still was very nice.
