Year 6 Day 21 Running Around In Kuah

23 February 2013 | Rebak Marina, Langkawi, Malaysia
Dave/Overcast
This morning we hired a taxi and once again ran all around Kuah, picking up stuff before we shove off. One of the things we picked up was our Yamaha 15 Hp outboard. I had dropped it off at the Yamaha repair shop last week. As it turned out, the lower housing seal had failed, allowing water to cause some corrosion. The repair was only about $120 US dollars which only $25 was for labor. However, when we returned to Leu Cat and I tried the engine out, I discovered that it was not performing normally. There are bubbles of air coming up from the submerged portion of the lower housing. Since I did not get a chance to test the engine until 1800 this evening, I will look at it again tomorrow morning. I have asked John of S/V Sea Mist to come over and give his opinion. I can just see me having to schlep the heavy engine back to Kuah tomorrow to address this issue.

Our shopping was rather straight forward; we went to about a half dozen places. The shops are difficult to find at times since there are so many of them all packed together and they are not well marked. Even our driver had difficulty in finding one of them and had to ask for help. We eventually found the place. This problem is one of the reasons we paid a few bucks more for a driver. If he was having difficulty find a place, think of the problems we would have had.

Anyway, we returned to the shuttle boat dock in time to catch the 1330 shuttle back to Rebak Marina. One of the things we did not pick up was our bottom paint since it had not yet arrived. I had resigned myself to having to pick it up tomorrow. By 1600 I received a call saying that the paint had arrived but there was a problem. I had ordered 7 cans of paint so we could put on a double coat and have it last a few years. However, during shipping 3 of the cans had fallen and at least one of them had spilled. I guess a couple of the other cans are coated with spilled paint. Now I get to go and look at it tomorrow and decided if I want the order or not. Today just was not a great day...
