Year 8 Day 40 The Party Is Over

Dave/Windy With Periods Of Rain
The early spring weather that we have been having these last few days ended with a bang today. The skies clouded over, the winds piped up and blew from the northwest. By late night, the rains started and should last through tomorrow.
The winds are projected to be getting into the 40+ knots range with gusts above 50 knots. Wow, that is one mean storm! Thank goodness we are hunkered down, nice and snug here in the False Bay Yacht Club.
We twiddled our thumbs most of the day waiting for the rental car to arrive. Since I still need to drive into Cape Town a number of times to get stuff for the boat and we wish to be mobile so we can shop as well as do a little bit more touring in this area while we are here, we have opted to just bite the bullet and pay for a rental car for a while. We usually don’t go to this extreme while overseas and on our boat. However, we got spoiled having a car with us when we were back in the US. It just makes everything so much simpler when you have a lot of longer distance errands starring you in the face.
The car did not arrive until 1330 and when it did, it took over two hours to go through the transaction. Actually, the transaction still is not finished but we have the car now. The problem was with the credit card. The fellow kept on swiping it on his portable card reader but the reader was showing that the transaction did not go through. Meanwhile I kept getting repeated emails from Capital One Visa telling me that the card had been repeatedly used by the Tempest Car Rental people and for the amount the fellow was putting into his machine.
I even had to call the overseas Capital One number to talk to a Visa representative to confirm that my credit card had been billed only once. We straightened out the problem with the multiple billings and was told that the problem must have been with the rental car’s bank not getting the proper authorization code. After repeated calls between the fellow delivering the car and his manager I was told that the company was going to spend the rest of the day working on the problem and the manager asked if she may call me tomorrow so that I could forward my emails to her for her to show the bank. Go figure. At least we have the car.
Since it was 1630 by the time the car was released to us, it was too late in the day and the weather was too nasty to do anything so Mary Margaret and I just played cards, listened to music, had an early dinner and when to bed. Not a very exciting day being a cruiser today.
