Year 8 Day 102 Best Laid Plans - Part 2

05 October 2015 | Luderitz, Nambia
Dave/Sunny
Our friends, Mary and Greg, are still expected to be here in Luderitz this coming Wednesday. We received a number of emails from them keeping us posted on their progress. They will be spending tomorrow exploring Windhoek, the Capital of Namibia. First impressions have been very good. This is the joy of cruising: getting to do some land travel and exploring the hinterlands of the places you sail to. They are just doing it backwards, exploring the hinterlands before they sail to a country. Oh well, everyone is different. LOL!

My plans for starting our refueling took a step backwards today. After getting the 10 5-gallon jerry cans up out of our starboard’s forward hold, I decided to check our water tank level. Both Mary Margaret and I have been using a lot of fresh water due to lots of laundry and cleaning the inside and outside of the boat. While I use seawater to scrub the decks, I use fresh water on the windows and clear plastic of the bimini to prevent salt from scratching the surfaces. I was surprised to find that we only had about 50 gallons left of the 160 gallons that are in the two active water tanks. I have isolated the third water tank for emergencies. Thus, I changed my plans and decided to spend the day filling our water tanks. I stopped after making 6 runs to the waterfront’s water spigot using our 3 water jerry cans with each load. I ended up putting in 90 gallons of water before I was bushed. I am still a bit short of topping off the tanks but will wait until Greg is here to help me do that.

Tomorrow, I will start the serious schlepping of fuel jerry jugs. I know I should be able to get at least 50 gallons on board and into the fuel tanks. If I have the energy, maybe I will be able to do 100 gallons. The nice thing about being a cruiser is that it keeps you in shape! For an old salt, I am not doing too bad…
