Year 8 Day 160 We Have Arrived!
01 December 2015
Mary Margaret and Dave/Sunny, Hot and Humid
After drifting and motor sailing all night long at 3knots/hour we arrived at the entrance of Prickly Bay Harbor Marina in Granada. As we were approaching Prickly Bay marina, where we will be keeping Leu Cat during our holiday visit with our kids, Michael of S/V Infini hailed us on our VHF radio. I had to tell him I would call him back since we were about to dock and all four of us were busy with lines, fenders and preparing to dock. However, once we were docked we called him back. It was so good to hear an old friend's voice, especially one that we have sailed with a number of times during the last 7 years. He and his wife, Susan, have rented a car to tour the island today but promised to come over tomorrow morning. We are so excited to see them again!
Once near the marina's dock, we were greeted by two fellows to help us dock. The dock hands were wonderful and they helped us dock licitly split. After getting all of our lines and electricity set up (including turn on the air conditioning), we decided it was time to pop the cork on the champagne. We all had lots to celebrate! Greg and Mary could celebrate their first successful oceanic crossing - and what a long crossing it was! We celebrated the successful finish of our circumnavigation. Yahoo to us all!
After our respite we all started our "chores". Dave had to go to customs and immigration. Greg and Mary worked on scrubbing the outside of Leu Cat while I worked on cleaning the salon. Not what any of us wanted to do but Greg and Mary want to leave the boat and explore Granada and we need to prepare Leu Cat so we can fly back to the USA for the holidays.
We are bushed after our long passage but safe and sound and Leu Cat made it despite the numerous issues that challenged us during this passage. As we were approaching Grenada we were hailed by a large tanker that really put our passage in perspective. He had been watching us drift along, killing time so that we could arrive in Prickly Bay during the early morning. He had thought that we might be a boat that is long overdue in arriving in Puerto Rico. We thanked him for his concern but told him that the missing boat was not us. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the missing boat turns up with all people on board safe and sound.
We wish to thank all of our family, friends and blog readers for their support, words of encouragement and wonderful blog comments and emails. You have helped us complete this passage by keeping our spirits up and letting us know we are loved. Thank you.
