Year 8 Day 168 Shawarmas

The highlight of the day was around lunchtime when Michael, Susan, Mary Margaret and I drove over to St George University in search of Azad’s restaurant and his famous shawarmas. On the way we stopped by Budget Marine to see if Michael’s watermaker booster pump had arrived. It had so soon they will be able to make their own water again. After wandering around the store, it felt good to be back in an area that had a good chandlery. Grenada also has Island Water World in St. George, which I have been told is even better stocked than Budget Marine.
Finding Azad’s restaurant was easy because he had told us to just look for the place with all of the flags. They were hard to miss so we pulled right up and parked the car. We were greeted with a warm welcome and he told us we should have stayed at the beach longer yesterday as they ended up having way too much food!
We all order lamb shawarmas and each couple ordered a Caesar salad to split. A couple of cold Carib beers complimented the shawarmas perfectly. The shawarmas were delicious and the salad was huge and covered with wonderful chicken. Michael and Susan insisted on paying for lunch since we had been driving them all around so much. Never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I quickly agreed.
Azad then poured each of us a shot of his homemade rum that is steeped with cinnamon, ginger, raisons, vanilla beans, plums and honey. As he put it, it was a drink among friends. It went down so easy and was very tasty.
To round out our meal, Mary Margaret and I suggested we pay for dessert and we all walked over to the local ice cream shop next door. The scoops were large and the ice cream hit the spot. We all commented that we should have stopped with just one scoop but who can do that when it comes to ice cream?
We returned to Prickly Bay Marina with our tummies full. The only work Mary Margaret and I did was to drop off our laundry and then go to the Customs office to get a form that would allow us to take to the US and then bring back into Grenada duty free some of our boat equipment that we are having repaired while in the US. This means tomorrow will be a very hectic and busy day for us as it is our last day here before returning to the States for the holidays.
