Year 9 Day 80 A Diet Day

Today was a wonderful repeat of yesterday, coffee on the beach watching the sunrise, a nice group swim around the bay, playing cards with Mary Margaret, listening to our favorite music, reading in the afternoon under the shade of a swaying palm tree, enjoying my Cuban and a Manhattan as the gentle surf washed up to my feet as I watched the sunset… just enjoying our very special time here at the La Sagesse Hotel. Sometimes, life is just too tough…
There was one thing different about today from yesterday. It was a diet day for us. Every third day is a diet day and today was one of them. We started this routine about one and half years ago when we visited Valerie and Joe, our friends in Las Vegas. They both had lost so much weight from the previous time we had seen them and we asked them how they did it. They shared with us that it was a very simple thing and following this diet they were never hungry. They basically significantly cut their caloric intake for a day to about 500 calories. The other two days in this three day cycle they eat the way they normally do.
We have been following this approach and it has worked wonderfully for us. We both are about 20 pounds lighter than we were before we started following this program and we are still losing weight. We do not follow it religiously. If an event or special occasion crops up on a day that is supposed to be a diet day, we just push the diet day to the next day. Sometimes, we skip it entirely. However, the vast majority of the times, we simply do it.
I am not as strict about it as Mary Margaret is. I usually let my calorie count go above 500 calories but seldom does it go above a 1000. It is usually the Manhattan at the end of the day that throws me over the threshold. Also, if I do get a little craving during the day, I just grab a handful of nuts, or take an apple, or wack off a small wedge of cheese. This fills me up and I am good to go.
Following this diet approach has also generated another positive aspect. Since we eat very lightly on our diet day, our meat consumption has decreased and so has our monthly food bill. Over the course of 30 days, we have eliminated 10 days of normal consumption. We have found that our month food bill has decreased about 25 percent.
Tomorrow I return to Leu Cat and resume my scrapping and scrubbing of the residuals of the expanding foam explosion. I cannot tell you how much I am looking forward to it…
