Year 9 Day 144 Stuffed!
This morning I had called our friend Michael, who works at the Hilton. I wanted to be sure he was working today so we could go there and introduce Heather. Plus, we wanted to share the Hilton’s great food with her. She agreed to go but only with the understanding that we would allow her to pay for the Champaign. She wanted to toast Mary Margaret and I on our recent achievement of completing our circumnavigation.
To get there we introduced Heather to the jitney service that runs around the island. These are little minivans that get stuffed with people as they run between home and work or doing their daily errands. It is the primary mode of transportation for the locals. The ride is only $2 Barbados or $1 US. The jitney dropped us off near the Hilton and it was only a short walk down a road with lots of beautiful bougainvillea lining the way.
We went to the main restaurant to have a late lunch and discovered that Michael was working the poolside grill today. We decided that we would walk down after lunch to visit with him. However, as it turns out, before we finished our lunch he came up stairs looking for us. The result was the picture that is posted to this blog. Michael was hoping to give Heather and us a little island tour this Saturday but that is when Heather is returning home. Needless to say, it was a very kind and generous thought.
We enjoyed our sumptuous meal with Heather having the mixed seafood grill, Mary Margaret having a pizza and I enjoying a Cajun seafood linguini. Paired with Heather’s Champaign and the gorgeous views of the aquamarine ocean, it was a memorable and most enjoyable time.
After desert we opted to have drinks by the poolside and chatted a bit more with Michael. After hugs and kisses, we decided to take a cab back to Independence Square. We were all just too stuffed to take a jitney and I was anxious to get back to Leu Cat and just plop down into my hammock to recoup.
This wonderful day ended with a rousing round of Mexican Dominoes. We only played half a game (6 rounds) and I am ahead. The final results could end differently tomorrow but until then, I will be having sweets dreams knowing that I am winning.
