10/10/2009, Port Jefferson, Long Island
The schooner Liberty has just returned from a trip to Port Jefferson, Long Island with the kids from Stony Brook School.
We departed Tuesday, under sunny skies from Liberty Landing Marina with students from Stony Brook School aboard. As we voyaged up the East River, into Long Island Sound, the students participated in programs which covered marine ecology, maritime history, theory of sailing, coastal navigation and much more.
On Wednesday a Gale was forecasted to blow through, so instead of sailing to Norwalk, CT, we stayed in Port Jefferson, and a middle school class joined us for English Lit (Treasure Island - parts of a sailing ship), sailing, and marine ecology.
We waited for the gale to blow through, and sailed back to our slip yesterday.

The team from Nycomed arrived early on a chilly, windy Wednesday. The weather didn't deter our intrepid sailors, and after a brief orientation aboard the schooner Liberty, the team assigned roles to each other. Each role would be essential in the completion of the team objective which was a circumnavigation of Governors Island.
The crew, got underway, and handed over to the team at the entrance to the Morris Canal. They were on their own now. The navigators, used the charts of New York harbor, and the Eldridge tide and current tables, to give the helmsman a course to steer, while the deck crew figured out how to raise sail and keep a look out for ferries, tugs and other shipping traffic.
With the brisk wind, and favorable current, the team easily completed their objective, and had a great lunch. Well done Nycomed.

Acceptability is most important to me.
I think I have become an honorary "family" member.
I cannot express my gratitude enough.
We sail each day and relish each moment separately. It is a continual vacation.
Always, be safe.

Cruises aplenty. Sunsets phenomenal. Moonlit waters to the entrance of the harbor. Only absence of music & a tender embrace from a lovely female. Our stay is short, but life is wonderful. I await patiently.
