Hi my name is Juliana. On Tuesday I took a sail on the Liberty Schooner. I boarded the boat in the Port Jefferson Harbor. The family on the boat was very nice. I had so much fun steering the boat around the harbor with my Best Friend Mikayla. They had a pirate aboard and we looked for treasure. I would go back on the Liberty Schooner again. It was so much FUN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First time behind the wheel of a sailboat..It was a good and freeing
experience. I loved it and sharing the trip with my best friend. It was
an awesome time sailing in the harbor where I live, how much fun!!!

We have enjoyed a wonderful week in Port Jeff. Sailing daily from Harborfront Park, we have enjoyed awesome sunsets, and wonderful sails in Long Island Sound. One evening we had about 20kts of wind, and with all sail up clocked 8.2kts under sail.

Here is Charlie, all smiles, enjoying the feel of the helm at full speed.

To everyone on the Liberty Schooner,

We wanted to thank you for what was truly a lovely, fun, educational, and memorable cruise with you out of Port Jefferson. Thank you for your hospitality and patience with the sometimes rambunctious children. They really enjoyed learning a little bit about the sea and being allowed to feel that they were part of the crew. My son Mark quickly grew very fond of amazing Master Luke and my daughter Amanda was thrilled to be able to steer the ship for so long.
We hope you will come back next summer and offer the Stony Brook School campers (and their parents)another exciting evening.

The following information was found online about this years fireworks show.

To celebrate the 400th anniversary of the exploration of the Hudson River by Henry Hudson, Macy's will stage a show stopping pyrotechnic show over the Hudson River instead of the East River this year.

The Macy's July 4th fireworks display originally made its debut on the Hudson River in 1958 before becoming an East River tradition in 1976.

The 2009 Macy's fireworks show will feature more than 40,000 shells exploding at a rate of more than 1,500 per minute (that's eight times more high-level fireworks than last year's show). At approximately 8:20 pm on July 4th, the 26-minute display will be set off from six barges positioned between 24th and 50th Streets on the Hudson River.

The fireworks will be synchronized to a score of patriotic standards, classic river-themed works, and original music. The legendary New York Pops will perform the musical score under the direction of Steve Reineke. Broadway superstars Audra McDonald and Idina Menzel will perform.

Before the big fireworks show, spectators can enjoy an FDNY Fireboat water show (featuring arcs of red, white, and blue arcing 300 feet in the air) and an Air National Guard jet flyover.
