In the News Again - Long Island.
Liberty Mission Support HQ04/10/2010
Roger, a good friend of the the schooner Liberty worked with the local boy scout troop of Setauket, Long island, to make care packages for the young boys of Haiti. These care packages are on the schooner Halie & Matthew right now underway to their destination.
Weather Report for Halie & Matthew
Liberty Mission Support HQ04/10/2010
The wind turned last night from south to north, and then at sunrise, the easterly wind has started to settle in. The last we heard from the Halie and Matthew, was that they were becalmed, waiting for wind. As you can see from the forecast for the next 24 - 36 hours the wind will gradually increase to 20 kts from the east. I am sure captain Jared was hoping it would stay in the north longer, putting it behind the beam, but these are not bad conditions, and the Halie & Matthew should be making steady progress towards Haiti.

Liberty Mission Support HQ04/09/2010
We just heard from the schooner Halie & Matthew, all is well, they are becalmed and have decided on a fancy dress party. From what I gather, its going to be a fun evening.

Dear Folks at LMSHQ,
16h30 Update
LMSHQ04/09/2010
Sailing south with all sail set in the area of the Abacos making 2kts. Captain Jared says the morale of the crew is high, and all are doing well. Justin's hand is much better. It turns out, it was the hand he had broken a few weeks ago, and he just over-worked it yesterday. Cynthia says "happy birthday mom", and all the crew want to send their love home. They are running 3 watches, 4 hours on, 4 hours work duty during the day, and 4 hours off. They are hoping the wind switch to the north, will increase their boat speed over the next few days.
Update on Progress
LMSHQ04/09/2010
At 2330 last night (April 8th) we received a satellite phone call from the schooner Halie and Matthew. At that time they were in the vicinity of Grand Bahama Island, sailing south at 2.5 kts. All is well, except for chief mate Justin, who has a broken hand. They are proceeding to Haiti.
