After much rain, Saturday dawned foggy, warm with the potential for some sunshine. Girl scouts from 2 troops arrived early to board the schooner Liberty for a fun filled sail around New York Harbor.

The girls had a wonderful time, and the sun eventually broke through the clouds, to start a great weekend of sailing weather.

Wow, what a wonderful week-end of sailing we had! The crew is tired, but we all have huge smiles on our faces. We started off Saturday morning with a full boat for Hanna's 14th birthday party. The kids had an absolute ball.

Then for our 6:30pm sunset cruise, we had Susan's Dad's 70th birthday celebration.

Then today, with an awesome wind we had our Natural & Holistic Pet Care Cruise, with the famous Dr. Gerald Buchoff. We raised all sail, and sailed up and down the Hudson River in front of the Statue of Liberty. Several times we hit 8 knots under sail (10.5 kts on the GPS with an flooding tide). This was the first real wind our crew experienced, and they did a great job working together as a team.

We enjoyed an awesome sunset cruise last night. Thunderstorms were forecast for the area, so we kept a close eye on the weather radar. Towns to the north and south of us experienced heavy rain, lightning and some got hail, but once again the New York Harbor micro climate seemed to favor us.

Our saying "come as strangers, leave as friends", was experienced as all the passengers enjoyed their time aboard.

The crew preformed very well, what a rewarding sight to see, a team starting to form, and work together. Well done First Mate Spencer for the hard work training the new crew, and leading so confidently.

It was delightful to have so many kids on board this week-end. They all took turns at the helm, and enjoyed the scenery as we sailed by lower Manhattan.

We celebrated Mother's day in fine style. Kathy's family flew in from all corners of the country to enjoy a family reunion with us. What fun we had! The rain that had fallen non stop the week before gave way to a fogging morning on the day of the cruise. It soon burnt off, and with a light breeze, the schooner Liberty spread her canvas, and enjoyed a wonderful afternoon sailing with some wonderful people.

It was so much fun to reconnect with old friends for our New Year's harbor tour today. It would have been nice to have temperatures higher than freezing but we were refreshed by the cloudless, sunny skies. All the kids who joined us for the day opted to stay down below out of the cold, under the watchful eyes of some adults who needed to defrost in the galley. This New Year's tour is held annually by our good friend Shelly and we were thrilled to be asked to host this year's trip as the ninth annual New Year's harbor tour. We had about 25 people on-board today and really loved spending time with our old sailing buddies like Charlie and Fran, Owen, Dominique, Blaine and Rachel and so many others that are dear to us.
