When it is windy the racers have a board they sit on to keep the boat from flipping. David was invited to sail on the boat Red Stripe, they needed more weight on the board, but he decided not to. They are required to finish with the same number they start with, no dumping anyone off if the wind is light and they need less weight. If anyone falls off they are required to go back and pick them up before they can finish. I think David was afraid he would be more of a hindrance than a help.
