Fort Frederica on St Simons Island GA

Jill / 78 degrees Sunday night
What a great couple of days! The weather has been wonderful - sunny and beautiful with temperatures in the 80's! It's great to be wearing shorts and tank tops in November! Actually, it's 78 degrees with a light breeze blowing as I'm writing this blog. Very nice evening!
The winds have been light, so we've enjoyed a couple days of some great motor sailing thru sounds that are wide open to the ocean between rivers and cuts that wind thru marshes and islands. On Friday we anchored at scenic St Catherines Island, and on Saturday we anchored by Fort Frederica National Monument on scenic St Simons Island.
This is a favorite spot of ours. The grounds of historical Fort Frederica are absolutely breathtaking with live oak trees dripping with Spanish Moss among the many ruins of the town surrounding the fort. This morning we attended a wonderful church service at beautiful Wesley UMC with Bud and Jen (s/v SeaQuest) and Tom (m/v Kozy Kadey). This afternoon we rode our bikes along the paved paths to a grocery store and we enjoyed a delicious lunch buffet at Bennie's Red Barn, while enjoying the beautiful scenery all around the island. The dinghy dock is not accessible at low tide, so we needed to plan our trips to shore around the tides. Guess that's part of the appeal of this area! Needless to say, we've enjoyed our stay at Fort Frederica and St Simons Island!
Monday morning we'll be crossing a couple of sounds as we head to Cumberland Island for a day or two.
As you know, we're traveling with our buddy boat, s/v SeaQuest. We have so much fun with Bud and Jen! They're great friends and traveling companions! Jen is a great writer, so I've added a link to their blog, "Sailing Away... for a while," on the right hand side of our blog so you can read and enjoy her perspective of their trip.
And as always, I seem to be uploading photos more often than updating our blog. The photo album is now sorted with the most recent pictures at the beginning, so it should be easier to see our latest sights and activities rather than scrolling to the bottom of the album.
