Cumberland Island GA

09 March 2012 | Brickhill River off Cumberland River
Jill / 76, sunny, W to SE winds at 5 to 10 kts
Left our Pine Island anchorage at first light. Saw the full moon and a bank of early morning fog and watched the sun rise as we traveled along the marshland. Great way to start the day! Motor sailed most of the day while enjoying the abundance of unspoiled natural beauty and watching pelicans and birds and dolphins along the ICW. About 30 geese flew overhead in a V formation as we crossed from Florida into Georgia. Looks like we're not the only snowbirds heading home! Anchored in Brickhill River at Cumberland Island. The tide was extremely low due to the full moon. We're now back in areas with 7 and 8 foot tides. We traveled 62 miles and 10 hours today. Only 835 more miles to go.

There's a small craft warning with gale force winds forecasted for later tonight and tomorrow, so we may stay here for a day or two. This is a protected anchorage and we can dinghy to shore at Cumberland Island National Seashore and walk along a nature trail to the ocean if it's too windy to travel.

We arrived in Florida on Nov. 3rd and left March 9th. We visited so many wonderful places along the Okeechobee Waterway, west coast, Florida Keys, and east coast!
